Rivals finsh within seconds of each other in difficult conditions in Cheshire
The keen rivalry between Dan & Justin was in evidence yesterday in the South Lancs RC open 10 mile timetrial with just 22 seconds seperating them.
Conditions were difficult with a strong SW headwind on the final 2 miles of the rolling Cheshire course adding 2-3 minutes to all the rider's typical times.
Dan got off to a bad start with a 1m 38s late start penalty and finished with a time of 28m 58s. Justin just pipped Dan's time with 28m 35s.
Alan also had a difficult ride, having been ill for several days beforehand he finshed in a time of 25m 55s, finishing 27th in the field of 90 riders.
The winner was Robin Brennan - Preston Wheelers in a time of 22m 48s.
In the tandem event Neil Stirzaker & Gethin Butler - Preston Wheelers finished in 20m 41s.
No excuses for my tardy appearance at the line for my start-time, Just first event of the year nerves I suppose. Blimey though, I wish I had known about my time penalty before I headed off. If i'd have known I would have taken a detour via the HQ for more of the cakes and flapjacks on offer instead of spending the next 27 mins 22 seconds straining my greens for a respectable time ! Perhaps I’ve been knocking around with Chris W too much he’s always late too !
Well done to andy not only did he run a superbley organised event,(90riders
all profits going to charity).
He was to modest to mention he was faster than anyone else in our club by 12 seconds.
