You've got my juices flowing for this one, and I promised myself, my wife and my work that I couldnt possibly commit to 6 days away next June and would not be able to do it. But as bloody usual the lack of Liddle willpower is overbearing me again. Seriously though the charity cause that this is in support of is a fine choice and and is one of the reasons why it makes me re-think.
Any how if I dont ride then I will gladly lend as much support as possible if you need me in terms of organisation, accomodation planning etc.

Now the date is set and it would appear most of us are up for it perhaps it would be good to start thinking about some walking training? If you want me to put a few training walks together then I'm happy to do so. The route looks good especially the Arran diversion. It may be an alternative to ride to Wasdale and do Scafell Pike then down to Borrowdale rather than Langdale, mind you its always raining in Borrowdale!

Jonboy - my life consists on the whole these days of sitting - sofa saddle and swivel chair... walking is possibly the most concerning part of this for me. The odd venture into the hills up here results in (as Chris pointed out) the Bee Gee's gurning tribute the day after (if not more). So when you say training, can we have some milestones in terms of "you can do this" - and no "walk up mountains" is not what I am on about before someone gets clever. I guess what I am saying is training wise - give us (or maybe just me!) a learning curve and some homework.

*I have this fear of slowing people up.

3peaksbybike.org is registered now for us should we want to use it as a donations come information holding page. I have some other techie ideas that may be of assistance, but appreciate I live on my own planet so may mention later.

Oh, and Mark "Iron Man" B. - you asked for me to remind you of your password - you dont have one; send me your email address and I will sort it out for you as soon as I can.

For training - watch this space - we'll have a chat and decide when is best for all. We're going to be walking up mountains so I'm afraid we'll have to train for that, painful as it might be to start with. The aim is to build up gradually to the sort of ascent and distance we'll have to do on the event.
Snowdon and Scafell Pike will be within everyone's grasp if not now then within no time at all. However, The Ben is a bit of a grueller especially the descent and since the majority voted to end with this bonny lump of granite it could be a long day.
Walking poles will help enormously so if you can beg, steal or borrow some - do it. There won't be any pressure to keep up, we will walk together at the pace of the slowest, this is a team event and it essential we keep together. We can buddy up on rucsacs for carrying kit, grub, etc. and the stronger walkers will be expected to carry for longer (and it will slow them down a bit).
Drafting is of no use whatsoever when walking so don't bother tucking in behind Alan!

I will be the judge of that John. I would say the physics of drafting when walking are exactly the same as when cycling, so I will be having a go ! Whats the terminology for a persistant drafter whilst walking ? as it cant be wheelsucker. Perhaps its footsucker but that brings up soem nauseating images involving David Mellor and other tory politicians eeewww.

majority voted to end with this bonny lump of granite it could be a long day - would the informed massess have had it the other way around? If it is that bad, I think the whole travel home with uber sore legs is more inviting than riding 100 mile?

For reference - it can also be pretty drafty behind Alan as well (o;
