Ferrets don't bounce!
Sunday saw a small group (Dan &Jase) plus two regular sized adults hit the trails at LLandegla.
Much pee taking on the trip out for my navigation but mostly Petes body armour...little did we know how much somebody else could have done with it on!
Ride went well with Dan&Jase making me and Peter suffer on the climbs, descents were fun and the 13ft High Northshore stuff was scary!
All fine until the ferret swapped lines on a set of doubles and landed on his front wheel then shortly after his shoulder...detatching his collar bone from the end yuk!
a walk to the trail end followed with a trip to Glan Clwyd Hospital...
So best wishes from us all mate and get well soon
ps anybody heard rumor Landis has had positive dope test upheld...officially not won 2006 tour!
You are damn right they dont bounce. It was only the fact that I dont have Jasons confidence over the jumps that saved him from me running him clean over as well ! as he was lying bike and all at the bottom of a rather large set of double jumps which were blind, so I had time to miss him just.
Yep it was a shame to end a good mountain bike trip on a sour note.
Apart from all the p*** taking (even after the accident), we were all genuinally concerned that Jason was ok even though he was still able to ogle mountain bikes, suspension forks, cars etc etc with as much enthusiasm as when he didnt have a broken collarbone !
Well done to Justin for looking after him and walking him back whilst Pete and I enjoyed...erm I mean rushed through the rest of the trail back to the car park to pick up the truck to get Jase to hospital.
I think Justin got delayed in the hospital though whilst he vainly tried to convine the doctors that Jason was not a drug addict high on speed, and he really is like this normally !
So get well soon mate, and enjoy your holiday. It wont be so bad, your Mrs will have to carry your bags and pass you cold San Miguels from the fridge ;)
PS. Ferrets dont bounce, and nor do Hamsters !
And I was really gutted not te be MTBing this weekend, no I'm kind of glad I didn't go, but like Iti Dan I'm not as gung ho as the Ferret so would hopefully of either landed more softly or wimped out / slowed enough to miss.
Jas' Get well soon, can you still manage the XBox etc?!?!?!?!
13' N/S for real, wow!!!!!!
!!Wot No Bar!!
That's it, I'm staying on the road. Too much risk and ain't got the bottle!
Hope Jason returns fit and well soon, we will all miss inane ramblings and bird impersonations.
Paul I did the same thing on the way to a Time trial once..Andy did the same in Denbigh!
Its just the way the cookie crumbles...
Plus Jase being mad doesn't help!
Sorry to hear about the accident. Hope he's better soon. We'll miss him on Tuesday nights. Who's going to wait for us on the hills now?
Justin I saw that about Landis on msn last week. He has one avenue of appeal left but looks like he's on a hiding to nothing.
and yes she is bl**dy pedalling
hello to all and thanks for the (p*ss take) kind words.as you all know by now i came a propper cropper on sun but not to worry sh** happens.now im an even slower typer with my arm in a sling and broken fingers on each hand.i look like a bloody lobster for goodness sake!its not all bad i can just about hold my xbox controler!!!thanks to all who helped on sunday including the terminator who buggered off for a three course meal(ok it was an energy beverage)
leaving me writhing in pain(joke)and bringing my car home safe.
oh and dont worry paul mountainbiking is great fun it was just me rideing like a girl!!!(no offence jan)
hope to see you all in about 8 weeks, keep up the good work(ive got loads of time now to find paul a good bike)!!!!!!
And boy did they take the p**s! but it was soon forgotten on the way home. I think the funniest moment was when Justin returned to the car leaving Jason at the hospital and told us that the nurse had asked if the accident happend at home despite Jason being in his cycling kit and full of mud :-) Also Dan and I getting back to the car after J & J. Paul you are so predictable, Dan's got a bargain of a MTB for you, get it bought!
Jason get well soon and "SLOW DOWN"
:-) :-) :-)
hope you get fixed soon Jason,
I know how those Falling to earth Experinces feel:( although I was fortunate not to Brake any Bones, Falling onto Tarmac must be softer,
So There is More evidence for the pro road gang.
I`m Chicken as well :)
So long as you can still grip your joystick then the 8 weeks will fly by.
Risk wise its all about how fast you choose to go. You go slowly and you less likely to fall and hurt yourself. MTBing is a fantastic healthy outdoor sport and makes for some welcome variety to your training in the off season, if you ride to your capabilities it is safe, we are not talking bear wrestling or cliff diving here ! In many ways I still feel safer on a mtb ride that on the road particulalry on winter nights. Lets face it you dont have to calculate in the "chav coming round a blind bend in his beatup old subaru" factor when you are out in the forests. And yes I read a headline naming Pereirro the 06 TDF winner. It is right and justice has been done, but I still maintain that stage 17 is one of the most heroic thing I have ever seen, drugs or not ! The way Landis rode up the Joux Plane was poetry in motion. I felt priveledged to have been there to see it.
Jason - good heavens! Justin filled me in on the details. Best wishes, and get well soon man.
I don't know who to feel sorrier for though, you or the wife with you around the place all day! In fact I cannot imagine you not doing loads of stuff and just sitting still recovering? Ahhh - gaming, its going to be gaming isnt it? 8 weeks of the stuff. Anything you need 'unbreaking' give me a call. How are you finding the controllers?
ooo I meant computers not limbs - ewww - limbs - ewww, wrong: you know what I meant.
But the captain came off his bike on the way to eureka this morning and guess what? He's broken his collarbone. So we won't be joining you on tuesday nights for a while although we might try swopping seats when he's feeling better. Looks like the bike will take longer to recover.....
Blimey, not another one, a get well soon to the Captain. Will you be advertising for a stand in :) I am considering having my collarbones removed and or replaced with steel ones (do we really need collar bones anyway ?) Syd you could sell yours on Ebay !
Now you have given Paul a dilemma, its clear the road riding is as hazardous as MTBing ! There is now only one available option, turbo training, or the track ! but mind out for those splinters !
... I can see something more like the Hans Device in carbon fiber front and back? Its the future you know.
Best wishes to the Captain, and I wish him a speedy recovery for both his and your sakes :)
Everyone keeps saying my return to riding will mean he gets more company... well thats blown my encouragements for a return to Tuesday nights!
Track - TRACK?! Are you serious?!
I _CLEARLY_ remember your wobble two years ago post sprint - I am surprised it doesn't haunt you too Dan! Speaking of which - are we planning a jolly there this year, if not more?
Captian what have you done? I hope you haven't broke your new light. If you went on the back of your bike would you need two hands? Vicky, no excuses see you solo Tuesday night. Get well soon Captian. When you fall off a MTB you go down smiling.....:-) apparently
at this rate I'm going to get my excuse book out again!!! (some say I always have)
tiddly winks 4 me!!!
Get well soon Cap'
!!Wot No Bar!!
Yes definately joking mate. The track is not where I feel most relaxed on a bike thats for sure ! Watching Syd defy gravity and the laws of physics lap after lap whilst continuing to go slower and slower on 45 degree banking was insane. He was almost mocking conventional wisdom. "Ha Einstein, you think you are so clever with your daft little moustache, and your theories of relativity ! lets see your smart arse formula to explain how the flip syd stayed up the banks"
Clearly Syds "outside of the box" thinking has more validity than we give him credit for. Who knows ? maybe invisible track pixies that keep your bike from falling off the banks with their magic dust do exist and its all of us who are the fools. ;)
CENTRIFUGAL FORCE ! MY ARSE !
Sir Isaac Newton, Sir Isaac Schnewton more like
PS. How dare you call it a wobble, beginners wobble, it was a "power shudder" all the pros have them. Mind you not many of them have to scoop out their shorts afterwards ;)
Ahhh yes I recall it well: he was going around the track like some kind of front wheel drive drift racer.
Yes thats the one ! It was the horrified look on the instructors face that said "How is he doing it" And the frantic panic ridden shouts of "SPEED UP !!!" everytime he went round !
With his talent he could join the circus motorbike team, as the the worlds first rider to do the "WALL OF DEATH" at 20mph on a Honda Melody 50cc scooter complete with shopping basket
