Guys, honest opions here please:
Am I good enough to win? No sorry:) take part in this event?
I am away this weekend at a 40th party in Anglesey and could make it back in time but I really don't want to turn up and get dropped just past the creamery.

Paul,
TLI events are split into age groups. Novice rider's tend to be promoted to the next older age group until they have found their legs. If you turn out to be too good for your age group you can be demoted to a younger age group.
There are plenty of big, fat & very fit riders in these events who are excellent to sit behind when the going get tough. Dan can give you tips on the best ones to use.
You'll never know until you try.
Personally I'd say, anyone who is of good fitness and keen to give it a try and can ride smoothly and safely in a bunch deserves to be there. Lets face it this is a local TLI race not Paris-Roubaix, no-one from any club is going to look down on you or be judgemental even if you do get dropped, TLI are all about giving an opportunity for everyone who wants to try a race have a go. If we could get 4 or more Melyd shirts in local road races on a regular basis then that will only improve the status/profile of the club.
My humble opinion is that provided you are ready and prepared for the digs (usually on the wall, so dont find yourself on the back of the bunch here) then you'd be absolutley fine, for a finish with the main pack. You'd love it I am sure, lets face it a Pinarello Paris was designed and born to race, let her free !
Its like having a Grand National race horse and only letting it do Donkey rides on LLandudno beach ;)
I'd just maybe leave the heroic lone early breakaway for your second race ;)
As Andy said, the bigger & fatter the better, but they have to be strong and fast as well. No point sitting on the wheel of some great lumox if hes on his way out the back of the bunch as well :) It takes some people years to master this negative racing philosophy of lurking quietly in a group and not doing any work. For me it just comes natural, like a duck to water ;)
With the Jersey count, not in the race, but looking on from the sidelines, I'm sure other none raceing VCr's will pass by the route on the regular Sunday ride, go on Skulls you'll be fine, surely it can't be as much pain as breathjing into VO2 mask and having blood taken, no pain!!!
and it'll sober you up after the party your going too :)
I should be, I know Andy is planning to as well
Great i will be there too, if we don`t have any of the wet stuff.
