Firstly, sorry to John for not attending his birthday ride, I would loved to have joined the masses of heavy drinkers but have only just seen the post and have spent the weekend wondering why I had not had a formal invitation to what appears to have been a great day.
Syd, as for Sunday's ride, I will give you the highlights:
Connor Guthrie is an exceptional young man at 15 years old to complete the 100 mile ride with seemingly great ease- well done. He'd not done more than 32 miles before Sunday.
Dan had an advance weather alert, bailed out and, I hope, missed an awful soaking at Betws y Coed. I suppose also well done to Man Utd...
Fantastic cafe at the Blanau/Bala/Ysbyty Ifan junction - The Caerphilly and Apple Cake was divine. The olives were very nice too.
Jan, after her winter sojourn, is back in her usual position of "Queen of the Mountains".
Another potential new member, Richard, also completed the 100 miles - I hope we didn't frighten him off and we see him on Tuesday or soon.
Yep, missed the rain.
I gave it beans all the way from Ffestiniog to home and got home by 2:35 pm, 19+ mph ave including Crimea pass, Llanrwst Hill & Llanfair TH hill so I am happy with what I got out of the day. And what a day, great route, beautiful scenery, great weather, finest cake stop for many a year, definately one for the memory bank that place.
Apologies for not sticking out for a 100+ ride, but well worth bailing out to see the Reds wrap up the premiership :) Still got 88 miles on the clock, half of which were done at a tough pace. So thanks for a great ride boys.
Agreed the young lad did very well considering its his first long ride
I think we popped into that cafe on a pre GFC ride last year!
at top of moors itsa a worthy rest, did you do the climb out of Penmachno upto the moors?
if so I'm gutted I missed that not!!!
Bailed out via Betws Y Coed, where I had a real near miss when a car nearly ran me off the road, on to Conwy and home along the coast....not sure of distance but a non-stop 5hrs was a decent ride.

The Queen of the mountains is hogging centre stage of mass start piccie!
Just noticed in your new piccie you seem to have overdone the St Tropez mate!
I thought you'd slathered the self tan on Tuesday...you must have really gone overboard whenever you rode that time trial...or were you qualifying for the Chad TT squad again?
You need to go a shade or two lighter fella..apparently the stuff with shimmer effect is more aerodynamically efficient as well!

Just downloaded data from Sunday's ride:
7300ft of climbing 103.6 miles
La Marmotte 17000ft of climbing 110 miles
Oh dear...
