Linkage for the googley challenged is here Dave Lloyd Mega Challenge - do we have a list of sadists involved - are we looking at the usual suspects?

This blatant use of MEGA in the name of a serious event makes me wonder if we need a mega man award?

Be quick

Entries close tuesday 31st. Midi is 100 miles-10,000 ft of climbing, mini is 70 miles with 7000ft of climbing.Counted 9 club members so far- all doing the mega!

It's the Midi for me!

I've decided to chicken out of the Mega and do the Midi instead. Gold standard is 7hrs and I think I may be able to do that and still get home to a happy family. My other alternative is over 10hrs in the saddle :( I am looking to leave the start at 7.30am if anyone fancies company or indeed, if anyone is going for a fast Midi then let me know what time.

Mr. Rutt

SILVER FINISH

Peter's picture

Paul Rutt and I managed silver in the 100 mile Dave Lloyd challenge 7hrs 27 min. We had a 15min delay at the lunch stop but still not enough for gold. However I feel that we both flew the flag well for our club. I must say I appreciate Paul sticking with me all the way around. I do know that if he had rode with a faster rider he would have finished with gold. However I did mange to give him a good run for his money, his legs being sore at the end :-)  That’s what I love about club riding, fellow members helping each other to get through a long ride. There are time’s when I’m the strong rider, “not very often” and I do get satisfaction from helping the fellow member, and there are times when I ride with stronger members and they help me as Paul did today! I know this is a bit deep, but doing a long ride with a fellow member is a lot more enjoyable than on your own.  Last week I did the rough ride with Dan and Chris Lord. What a hard ride, but with the encouragement with gave each other, we all got a buss from the ride. I guess what I’m saying is if you want to do a long challenge, team up with a fellow member with similar or slightly better ability then stick together, you will enjoy the challenge much more than riding on your own. I joined club riding for the love of cycling, good company and a good bit of banter. Well done to all that finished

wow that was hard easily the

mikey's picture

wow that was hard easily the toughest ride ive ever done!!!!!to do the blwch y groes at 100 miles soaking wet and still have 50 miles to go was cruel but all said it was a good feeling at the end of acheivement

I'll second that!

Cooltrader's picture

On the bwlch y groes i wanted the suffering to end! The hardest thing ive ever done, down to about 3mph,legs hardly moving, the descent into ruthin was funny, as we caught up other riders they would join our group and there was a few of us with 5 miles to go- that sign " 5 miles to go - all downhill :)" what a relief, well, these other riders who had been sitting on started to move to the front and it became a bit competitive! Me and mike were not going to let the side down so as we got to the finish we put a spurt on and VC Melyd won this little battle! P.s im never going up that bwlch y groes again!!

Pete,  Are you really sure it

Dan's picture

Pete,  Are you really sure it was Rutty ?? :).......There was this one time, when I heard the immortal words at the foot of Alpe D' Huez  "Dan, we started this together, we are going to finish this together, whatever it takes, I'll get you to that finish"  I was so grateful to have some friendship and support there and then in my hour of need that I welled up with tears.  Unfortunately when the tears subsided, I looked around to say thanks to him, only to catch a glimpse of him in the distance having fu***d off smartish, undoubtly repeating the mantra of our club motto under his breath :)............................. (Note to Paul, you know I am only kidding :)  You were bloody top man and proper mate that day, and I insisted you go on and not ruin your day waiting)

The Bwlch is easy!

Paul Rutt's picture

Guys, see me for lessons in how to get up the Bwlch...

Thanks Pete

...whilst in the Alps...

With the Marmotte looming for me and Lord Bamforth and the Etape for Janet and Dave, we decided that an alpine taster was necessary to test our metal for the big day(s). So it was we entered La Vallee d'Aulps which started and finished on our doorstep in Morzine.Due to the fact that the road up Col Joux Plane had been turned to boulders during the winter the route was changed. We started not knowing what total ascent was facing us due to mixed reports from various unreliable sources. What a ride. scenic, quiet, good grub and fantastic marshalling. Definately one for the calender whether or not you're doing a "big one".Janet, Mark and me cycled mostly together. Dave as usual ploughed his own gritty furrow and made at least 20 new lifelong friends en route.Having assisted Janet mechanically, physically and morally throughout, she pulled a fast one on the last ascent, disappeared over the top and was n't seen again until the flamme rouge! Great move Jan, wish I'd done that! The route took us over Col Joux Verte (Avoriaz) (biggest climb of 900m), Col de Corbier, Col de Cou, Col de Terramont, Col Jambaz and finishing with the Col d'Encrenaz (600m) totalling 4100m.We three did it with plenty to spare in 9 hours (cheating Janet in a few minutes less!) missing gold by 40 mins. Dave took a little longer. Ask him about the flowers!!There followed a splendid evening whereby suitable refreshment was quaffed until late.Great weekend, great ride and superb company.
