Good Samaritan

Posted in

News in this morning from a very pleased member of the public - a Mr. Geraint Owen of Old Colwyn.

"Dear Mr Rutt

A brief word to thank a Member of your Club (Gethin ????) - Good Samaritan) who helped me out by giving me his spare racing wheel inner tube yesterday (20th May) whilst I was taking part in the British Heart Foundation charity cycle ride (Rhyl, Prestatyn - 30 miles etc).

I experienced two punctures during the event (due mainly I think to the abysmal state of the old railway track surface - Prestatyn to Dyserth, should have used my Mountain bike perhaps ?) and when I reached St George's Quarry (Abergele) I had run our of spare tubes and patches. Gethin was good enough to give me his spare. (there were two Club Members at the road junction there).

I feel that I ought to at least return the favour and provide Gethin with the cost of the tube, or perhaps if you and he agree's, a small donation to the Club with my thanks.

Your web-site, whilst being very informative does not appear to give me an address (that I can find anyway. Perhaps you could let me know this ?"

... well done - do we have anyone willing to step up and take the glory? I feel a new end of year trophy coming on!

*this also is superb news as whenever I stop to ask people if they would like a hand they seem to look at me as if I have just stepped out of a flying saucer... although I am sure, to be fair, this may be a not all together uncommon reaction.

Somebody clearly hasnt learned the club motto ! (yes we do have one) Its probably best for our Chairman to perhaps give you the low down on it.  Its not hard to remember :)

'Morning people -I have to say I was very impressed that Mr Owen wrote in, and that I am not surprised in the slightest that a tube was offered, if not assistance fitting it. Well done.I am concerned about what he might have thought working his way through the forum mind ;)I will drop a reply back - or better still - forward the mail on to El Presedente as it was technically addressed to his highness.I too am out and about - and am equally put off by 130 mile jollies. My own fault I know. I was pondering the report of a flat ride for Syd the other day from SMM - however I cannot help but feel his perception of flat and mine probably differ quite a bit. This being said - 18 mile TT Wednesday - who's in? I am if wind drops.

enlighten me .....

And most of the other members too I bet.Whats the motto then?? Ridus as fastus as u Canus

Its a secret ....

You only learn the motto when inducted into the worshipful brethren of cyclists inner sanctum....we could tell you but it involves nipples being exposed, nooses and symbolic leg waggling.....you wouldn't be up for anything like that would you?....Glad to hear you are back out on the bike though!...ride a bit more and you may hear the immortal phrase uttered....often by Pete!

ye ye ye
