Blimey Oh Reilly, that was no wee trundle around the hillsides on a Mountain bike. Great event, bloody relentless though. Hardest Mountain bike ride I have ever done, made the Dyfi feel like an afternooon stroll ! Great stuff, congratulations to anyone who finished the event (long or short route) Both really tough.

ermm...we cheated!
How tough was that?...relentless is a good word, heat didn't help...I will never do a Marmotte/Etape cos imagining that level of effort at 15 degrees more heat is plain daft! Si and I got to the half way stage of the long un in 4.5hrs...which put him on for a 2am arrival home, so from the farm (yum bacon butties) we took the road back....not an easy option though as it also followed the same contours up and down 8mph avg spd! rejoined route for last 5miles great event though really well organised, will do it next year but stay on the Sunday night with day off Monday!Stunning bit of the world too really unspoiltplus points were I got stronger climbing throughout the 7hrs and I won a spot prize!..roughride guide book.....only trouble is Avon is as far north as they coverSam...email us your meatball recipe..they were ace!
Rough Ride
Well Well! How hard was that.......Hill after Hill after Bloody Hill.......Fantastic descents and I managed to stay on my bike. Great camping on the posh site, Kids, wife’s and dog all got on well so good weekend all round. Look forward to doing it again next year :-)
Was an epic!
What a ride, after 5.5 hours we completed the short route! The climbs were really hard and every time you thought that there could not be any more uphill another one appeared! The downhills more than made up for it though to be fair and once I started to let go a bit felt like I was flying down some of them. After we set off I lost the group but caught up at the water station divide with Amy, Si and Justin. Glad we turned left for the shorter route. I agree with Justins idea next year to stay at the other posh site and stay Sunday night too.All in all a great weekend!!
Yes as we were packing the
Yes as we were packing the tent etc up, still dressed in Mountain bike gear and covered in mud with legs aching an extra night seemed a winner of an idea, but hey ho, work beckons. The posh campsite was a great call in fairness, it was very well kept and FLAT ! there was loads of mountain bikers staying there, so didnt feel like we were out on a limb. Secondly it was actually only a 100m walk right into the middle of town, with all the pubs etc.
RR
Piccies online now and look really good...something about glorious blue skies!...startline ones get most of us in a group shot too!
Free Bean Stew !!Ha HA, I
Free Bean Stew !!Ha HA,I forgot about the bean stew jobby at the end, my god you have no idea how much one man could fart between Kington and Rhyl !!! Sure was a highly explosive number and no mistake !!! Needless to say family Liddle were less than impressed especially as the windows on the Alfa remained shut tight :) If you have ever seen the film "BACKDRAFT" you'll know why it was safer to stay airtight. It was definately a hard decision to make, whether to slowly poisin my own family by bean and pulse derived noxious fumes, or to open a window and allow a massive rush of air in, thus risking a explosion of Hiroshima magnitude. It seems I made the right decision as the Liddles are recovering well, however any long term effects of high level exposure to the pungent gases will have to monitored very closely.
